Can I claim from medical aid for your fees?
No, I am not a registered healthcare provider. I am a TRE provider and specialist counsellor with a master’s degree in research psychology.
Why do you use gentle touch and what is it?
Gentle touch is just that: I use my hands to touch you gently. I offer this service only for women.
I usually work around the client’s head, face, neck, heart, elbows, hands, knees, and feet. Sometimes I trace an energetic scar from a forgotten injury, even if it seemed really trivial at the time. Scars can affect the fascia system. It can be important to release any “stuckness” to improve the flow of energy through your mind-body system.
At a neurological level, gentle touch helps to connect the body and brain. This can be a crucial part of trauma recovery. People tend to dissociate during a very stressful event as a survival instinct. There’s nothing wrong with dissociation unless it is habitual. Gentle touch can counteract the dissociation and help us become more grounded in our body.
Gentle touch also stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system, which puts us into a state of relaxation and healing. The right kind of touch can send a message of safety and care.
In addition to using touch, I honour the need to talk and listen.
My counsellor has told me to have TRE. How many sessions do I need?
It depends on the client. Usually we recommend at least three sessions, spaced over a couple of weeks, before you start doing TRE safely at home.
TRE providers are sometimes contacted by clients or wellness coaches who have unrealistic expectations. TRE is not always the best modality for a client, and each person should be individually assessed to see whether it is a good choice. Please see my page on TRE to learn more.
